Phu Pha Sawan is located in Ban Rom Pho Thong, Village No. 19, Tab Tao Subdistrict, Thoeng District, Chiang Rai Province. It is part of the Phu Chi Fa National Park (Preliminary Area), Chiang Rai, situated about 2.5 kilometers from the nearest community along the Doi Pha Mon ridge, which is part of the Luang Prabang mountain range forming the Thailand-Laos border.
The trekking trail follows the mountain ridge through dense forests, leading to limestone caves and former strongholds of the Communist insurgents. Hikers can also explore historical sites, including the remnants of a secret French military airbase, where traces of its existence are still visible.
The area is characterized by cold weather, with temperatures dropping significantly at night and reaching their lowest point in the early morning. At dawn, a thick sea of mist blankets the entire landscape, creating a breathtaking and surreal view.
