The Ban Tha Khan Thong Homestay Community, located along the Mekong River in Chiang Saen, is a cultural fusion community blending three distinct cultures: Isan, Lanna (Northern Thailand), and Lao. This unique cultural integration is known as ELA (ESAN, LANNA, LAOS). The community is recognized for its rich cultural heritage and traditional agricultural way of life, where folk games, rituals, and traditions have been preserved and passed down through generations. These elements are combined with creative innovations rooted in local wisdom.
This distinct identity has given rise to a variety of hands-on and immersive activities, allowing visitors to experience, participate, and engage in traditional agriculture, wellness, and recreational activities that are spread throughout the community.
The ELA culture (pronounced “E-La”) is a harmonious blend of Isan, Lanna, and Lao traditions. Given its scenic location along the Mekong River, the community offers boat tours on the Mekong, along with traditional farming experiences, infused with the grace of Lanna, the excitement of Isan, and the joyfulness of Lao culture.
